Day 7 (July 31, 2024): A full day just hanging out at the JW Marriott

Ahhh… a full day of nothing but beach and pool!  No stressful driving, no sights to see, just our R&R.  After yesterday’s stressful drive, we were ready for, well, nothing.  Originally, we had planned to go zip-lining today.  But having enjoyed a morning by the pool so much, just floating around and around with pool noodles, we decided that zip-lining would add nothing more to our level of relaxation, so we skipped it.

After a wonderful breakfast, we walked Playa Manista from one end to the other (it’s a fairly small beach), then hit the pool.  There were lots of lounge chairs and umbrellas to choose from, and the pool was far from crowded.

At noon, we decided to head to our room for a light lunch.  We no longer got back there when the skies opened and the lightning started.  It went for a full two hours, so we sat on our patio, drank coffee, and took in the show!

At 2:30PM, we headed back to the pool, where we stayed for the rest of the afternoon. We made a reservation at the resort’s Asian restaurant for our last dinner in Costa Rica, which didn’t disappoint.

There isn’t much to show for the day, other than beach and resort pics.  But it really was an enjoyable day of R&R.

Various scenes of the beach, pool and hotel property:

This block of rooms is the closest to the ocean. We were so pleased to be upgraded to one of these views.

The hotel has an open-air lobby, which is quite unique.

The J.W. Marriott Guanacaste is situated in a fairly remote location.  It is on a small but pristine and secluded bay, the beach of which is called Playa Manista.  Here are some scenes of the beach:

The would-be king of Costa Rica?

Back at the pool, Pam’s poolside creativity was on display!

Just after 12:00, heavy rain seemed inevitable, so we decided to pack things up and head back to the room. We feasted on the big bowl of fruit the hotel had left us last evening when we checked in, as well as some snacks we’ve been carting around, some hot beverages and soda. It all made for a really nice lunch. Our room has a large balcony with a table, chairs and loungers, as well as a floor-to-ceiling bug screen that rolls down. The no-seams are annoying here, so that screen made all the difference to an enjoyable lunchtime. We watched the torrential rains and lightning for over two hours.

The JW Marriott property has many of these red floral hedges. Really spectacular!

Our last dinner in Costa Rica was had at Tamarine, the Asian fusion restaurant at the J.W .Marriott.  We had spring rolls, yellow curry and pad Thai.
